The Courses WALKS ON THE WILDer SIDE 2009 Guided walks with a geological, botanical and archaeological flavour in the Cumbrian Fells, Howgill Fells and Northern Dales. Since moving up into Cumbria from the Yorkshire Dales in 2005, I have been struck time and again by the variety and useful proximity of fabulous rock ages and structures up here. For instance, we are on Carboniferous limestones of exceptional quality, 5 miles east of your hotel and library/lecture room we find the contact with the Permian sandstones of the Eden valley. Then 2 miles west we are onto the Borrowdale volcanics of the eastern Lake District fells with the endlessly fascinating Shap granite batholith surfacing on the margins. Geo and biodiversity at their best. The area is hooching with stone circles, stone avenues, 17th century farmhouses, abbeys, castles and fortified houses - after all, we are in border rever country! So as you can imagine, there is much to see and explore on our walks. None of these will be longer than 8 miles and there will always be an opportunity to either bale out early or add length at the end. The price includes:
DATES: If interested, ring me or email and we can talk dates. I am flexible about length of the course, from 4 -7 days. COST: About one hundred pounds per person per day all inclusive apart from evening meals. GROUP SIZE: I need six to ten people to make a course viable so get working on your chums.
